Customer service rep. lied to us.

He gave us a supposed free upgrade that cost us over $94.00 for the week. Sold us a toll package when all tolls were disabled due to construction in Denver. They figure our ways to manipulate and cheat travelers who are unfamiliar with an area. Terrible. Never ever use again. Learned my lesson the hard way.

Bad car

We rented a car at the Salt Lake airport on April 19. The car smelled like cigarettes, one of the tires was bald, I don’t think it had a full tank of gas because we had to get gas sooner than we should have.

We contacted them the next day we were in Provo Utah and they told us that we have to come back up to the airport to change the car we were not able to do that so we had to drive around with cigarette smell for a week. Put gas in twice and they had the nerve to charge us seven dollars for gas.

I’ve had problems with them before and I will never rent again from them. The person at the desk was very nice and helpful but the car was not !!

Avoid if possible. Arrived at Phoenix airport for a 2 p.m. pickup. Did not get the car until 4 p.m Car upholstery was fabric (not a problem there) but back seat had *** in it. When I received my credit card statement, I found an additional $137 charge on it. It took me 45 minutes to get to the bottom of it. Apparently I had signed for collision damage waiver. I had made it CLEAR to the young man that I did not want any additional insurance. I never buy additional car insurance at the counter. He must have still added this and in my hurry to sign everything and finally get out of Phoenix airport I must have initialed it. When I called to complain a very capable customer service agent by the name of Alfredo agreed to give me 50% off the service I had verbally rejected at the counter. Better than nothing, but I no longer trust the company. I will try to avoid renting from this company in the future.

It took me no less than TWO HOURS from exiting Kahului Airport terminal to waiting for what seemed like forever for the Advantage Rent A Car shuttle to arrive at the terminal for the shuttle ride to Advantage's off-site location, waiting almost forever in the very old and filthy rental center for a service representative to process the rental applications, was deliberately lied too by no less than two service representatives at two different times as to why our full-size sedan was not ready for us, and then waited almost forever for the rental car to be brought to us in the front of the rental center from the servicing area in the rear of the rental center. Adding insult to injury, the gas tank was less than half a tank full.

Have germane pictures worth a thousand words. Worst rental in over 45 years of using rental cars.

This description of my Advantage Rent A Car experience was difficult to write without using every curse word known to mankind. Do not rent from this POS company in Maui, there's something wrong with this entire operation!

They are rude, nasty, refused to help me get to counter to pick up a car that I reserved. I would rather walk in the Phoenix summer heat than to ever deal with them again, EVER

Overcharged

Booked a car thru Orbitz and total charge was supposed to be $139.34 The total ended up being $386.24! They said that I added on collision insurance, roadside assistance, and prepaid fuel. Would anyone in there right mind agree to pay almost 3 times as much as they thought they were going to pay! Advantage is a complete rip off! They don't disclose there additional fees when you are picking the car up and then after they charge you refuse to do anything. If you rent thru Orbitz and it sends your reservation to Advantage please change it so this does not happen to you!

Toll Service Charges not reversed as promised

I flew into Dallas Fort Worth Airport for business, and while discussing my rental with the Advantage Rental Car desk agent she asked specifically where I was driving to during my trip because they are many toll roads outside of downtown Dallas area. I explained that all my business would be in the Dallas area, based on that she said that toll coverage would most likely not be necessary. She also said that people occasionally do make a mistake and inadvertently get on a toll roll and don’t know about it. She said if I receive a charge on my credit card after I had already closed and paid my rental contract that it would be a toll charge. She specifically said that if that were to occur simply call Advantage customer service and they will get the charged waived.

I called into customer service on 3/12/19 and was told by Advantage service agent and was they can’t remove a charge and told me to call 1-87*-727-**** and they would be able to remove the charge. When I spoke to them they gave me the run around and said they could not help me and they said that the Advantage rental agent and customer service agent should not have said that and that there is nothing that can be done.

This had been a terrible experience in which either your rental agent is confused as to what can be done with toll charges or the practice as a whole is nothing but a money generating tool.

I would hope you will be able to get the charge removed.

Barring that I will never rent from Advantage again and will file a complaint with the Better business bureau.

In Feb, 2019 I rented a car from DEN airport. My rental agreement Number is NPRL744F22AD, my rental pick up date was 2/26/19. I have a few complaints regarding this experience. First of all, my friend and I were in a hurry at the counter. The representative stated that for $30.00 more we could upgrade to a larger vehicle. Of course we said yes. After exiting the lot, we realized what the representative really meant. He of course meant $30.00 a day. I think it is terribly wrong for a representative to misquote a price. We were obviously taken advantage of. Secondly and most importantly, we were given a car with very little windshield wiper fluid. We were driving in the mountains leaving Springboat Springs in a winter storm and we were not able to keep the windshield clean. There was not a gas station for miles. The driving was very unsafe. Third and least important, the USB was not functioning. Everything should be working for a $30.00 upgrade. I am traveling in 2 weeks again, however I will not be using Advantage Rental. 12/10/2018. I had a pre-paid reservation. At the desk, the agent asked for credit card for deposit, ID and return itinerary. I fly to IAH very frequently and rent cars every time at IAH, although not from ADVANTAGE. (Hertz mainly) My itinerary was not in my email and I had trouble accessing the airline website on my phone so I pulled out my ipad to get on the website . I have flight benefits for employees of American Airlines and my itinerary was not emailed to me. The man, I was told by Linda Gibson (manager) whose name was "T" , said I just created the itinerary and it had to be done 24 hours in advance of the reservation. He was very loud and refused to complete my pre paid reservation. I showed him my credit card, drivers license, debit card and return itinerary and he continued to refuse to do my reservation. I asked for his manager. Linda Gibson came out and stated I had to have a return itinerary completed within 24 hours. I confirmed again that I fly as an employee of AA and showed her my return itinerary for 12/13/2018. She made a copy of the policy and highlighted the policy for debit cards that does NOT state a return itinerary must be created 24 hours prior to a car rental. They yelled that "policy" very loud to make me appear unreasonable even though I did have my flight reservations. They did this to verbally and by their actions discredit me in front of all of the people standing in line. Linda eventually did complete my reservation after I asked her if they were acting like this because I was black. My reasons for saying that- 1) I had a pre paid reservation, 2) I showed the credit card used to make the reservation and all ID was consistent; and 3) I showed a return ticket as requested and they refused to service me. I was not loud or discourteous UNITL after 30 minutes they continued to refused to service me and LIED about this 24 hour written policy.

I have never been treated so poorly as a paying consumer in my life. I was one step away from calling the police. This was my glimpse of *** on earth. First, I didn't know it was an offsite location or I would have never booked it. I didn't book on their site - which they rudely said to me "it's right there on our site". Second, I'm not sure if they are using computers and modern equipment or if that's just mock equipment to make it look 21st century? Plan to wait a long time or forever for each person to get through the checkout process. The guy traveler who I came on the shuttle bus with (who was also unaware of Advantage being offsite) was at the counter for 15 minutes - that was with a reservation. I heard the agent snapping at him before I got up there. We were the only 2 customers so I would hate to be there if there was a line. There were 3 employees in the check-in center but only 1 was checking people in. Third, when I finally got up to the counter I booked a compact and was given a Yukon. No one told me a thing until I got to the car. It was just me and I was driving a distance so that is a no go. Fourth, I went back in and asked why she didn't tell me she was giving a large SUV. She said that was all they had.....ummmm you could inform the customer of that. The "supposed manager" said if I wanted something else it would be a 2 hour wait. I told her I had a reservation and it was already an hour past that time. She said if I didn't pay ahead it didn't secure the car. She was incredibly rude. She informed me I could take a car that hadn't been serviced or cleaned. Well, I'm not waiting two hours for a car - so I got the crapper they gave me. The other "supposed manager" came out of her office and those two big ladies bullied me....this is the point where I wanted to call the cops. I then called the 1-800 Advantage number and stayed on the line with a very nice guy in customer service. They were both in front of the counter yelling and talking nasty slang (?). They threatened to kick me out and not give me a car. I let a customer coming in know that things were not going to be good. The 2nd manager threatened to call the cops. I stayed on the phone for at least 10 minutes with customer service - sort of like you would stay on the phone with 911 in an emergency. I went out and got my compact car and was concerned that the 2 "supposed managers" were going to sabotage my car or damage it on return. I started calling around to check other car rental agencies but was stuck offsite at night and it wasn't a good scenario. The employees outside and I took detailed pics of the car to make sure I wouldn't get unknowingly charged for damages by the 2 "supposed managers". The people outside couldn't have been nicer, along the with the security person I checked out with, and the shuttle bus driver. So, I feel like there are just a few bad apples in the bunch. Not sure how they would have responsibility as managers? If you like the show "Cops" this might be a good experience for you. If you like incompetence, being bullied, being talked down to, long waits, off airport cars, old equipment, and people mocking and laughing at you and wasting time....then this is your place!
